Sharing Trials and Going to the Temple

on friday, elder lewis, one of the other elders that lives with us, got a call from president hansen about how one of his aunts passed away. it was way sad cause elder lewis grew up in a very dysfunctional family and this aunt pretty much raised him. elder lewis has been out about 11 months and he has had a really heard time his whole mission with almost going home and things but earlier that day, him and elder willardson taught the plan of salvation to a guy and elder lewis said later that night that if he hadn’t been able to teach that lesson today he would have been going home for sure. he said while he was teaching the lesson he felt something was wrong but then he felt peace at the same time. it was really really sad to see him. he is doing better but it was really really hard on him. 

well everything here is going well beside that. excited for the temple on wednesday and conference this weekend. have a great day and tell everyone hi for me. Especially the track team haha!  love you all. oh so this is week six of the transfer and so that means this saturday we get transfer calls. hopefully me and elder k will stay together. thanks for everything

March GLADness!

hello y'all haha
     -how is everything going? things are good here. this last week, the area really picked up and you know sister sinclair, her daughter, told us that her english teacher and her two kids want to meet with the missionaries. right before i got to this area, sis, sinclairs daughter had her friend meeting with the missionaries and then her friend got baptized. i guess she gives us some good referrals. then we got in contact with a former investigator and right when i called him and told him who we were all he said was "no way!!". i guess right before i called he had just got done praying to know the truth and thinking about the missionaries and was way excited to hear from us. we are meeting with him on Tuesday with the patriarch, he is in our ward.

   -This former investigator (TIM) is like 25 and he wants to come to conference with us on sunday, we told him about it over the phone when we called but things are all going good here. we go to the temple on wednesday an then conference. yesterday in sacrament when they announced the times of conference they said at 11 and 3.  I was like are these ppl crazy. its 10 and 2 but i guess the time difference does that!

    -  you know that ensign stuff you put in your last email, i read all of that last night. i couldnt sleep last night so at around 11 i got up and read a bunch of it. its all good.

Zone Conference Bonus!

It was great for Chad and Taylor Workman and their family to get together with Brian and the other Elders that he lives and works with.  They were all in College Station, Texas for Zone Conference and Chad took them out for Frozen Yogurt after their meetings!  What a good time for all!

Happy First Day of Spring!

Hey family and mom :)

yeah its crazy to think last year we were in peru, that was so much fun, i loved going there, im glad i went with my family there and not to the booze cruise haha

 well things here are going good. we have some interesting investigators. bi-polar, drug dealing, crazy lady that doesn’t know who she is type of people lol but we are still trying. this one lady we are sort of teaching was a referral from someone in the woodlands and her son was in the military and had had lukemia earlier in his life and it showed up again, this last week her son died. We’re still trying to get in contact with her. but overall its all good here other than being sick all of last week.

Well everything here is still going as it should. We are going up to college station tomorrow for zone conference. maybe we will see chad.

Too Much of the Wrong Kind of Action!

hey mom and family!

thanks for getting the shoes and everything taken care of, you da best. I’m happy to hear about your 5K walk and that you did well. that’s how i felt after i finished the fun run at the fourth of the July. i hated that by the way haha

im still doing good in my journal for the most part and yes i did get you package with the bracelet and everything. wanna know something funny? i bought one of those like a week before I got yours. someone in the ward told me it would help with my migraines so i got one. i gave the one you gave me to an elder that lives with us.

The work here in Conroe is a little slow right now. we have like 4 we are teaching. we ran into a drug deal this week with one of our investigators. we walked around back of his apartment complex and to the other side and we see a car with a door open and it was him (deshawn) and 3 other guys right in the middle of it all. deshawn had it all right on his lap and i guess he was doing the sampling then, we scared him pretty bad. he was chill with us but the other 3 weren’t so we got outta there pretty fast. i guess it was pretty dangerous to stay around there cause we saw it all happen so we got outta there. 

 the ward is really cool. we played basketball with a member this morning, he reminds me a lot of dad and he has a son that is pretty much identical to camden. plays the same sports and looks like him too, our youth are really cool too.  its raining really really really hard right now too by the way lol

 it sounds like everything with you and the family back home is going great. hope that continues. i love you all. sounds like the mowing will start to pick up. take care everyone.

first of all everything here is going just great, work is a little slow but were picking it up though.  the Edneys moved so we had to pass them on to other elders. but we have a couple of ppl we are working with so that hopefully will go somewhere.

thats cool about trevor doxey going to the same mission, will he meet steve and pam, pretty exciting. and yes i will be out for a year.

everything is going good with the comp. i really really like it, we work hard and sitll have fun, and the other elders are awesome too.  i really really like it. :)

New Man in Conroe!

well I’m in my new area and im loving it, Conroe Texas.   my comps, name is elder Keliipuleole, we live with two other elders, our apartment is awesome and the other elders are too. the elders that were living with is elder willardson, and elder lewis,  they are awesome.

sounds like dad is still being a stud and doing what he does, he is awesome, best dad anyone could ask for, thats fo sho haha he is working hard which is good. i hear buhl didnt make it to state, thats too bad, now they get to start track hahahaha suckers hahaha, just kidding. i really miss it, probably just being out there with dad and all that, that’s what I’ll miss the most, good times

so conroe isnt too far from college station, so for zone conference, this transfer we will be going up to the station!!! im so excited, after conference, we are gunna go around campus and talk to the college folk haha

everything is going great, oh for dinner on Saturday night, we were watching the military film that the church gives to the military families and so we were watching it with this family, and it showed a clip of elder Oaks talking to some military ppl and it showed the crowd and guess who i saw.... Bryan Egbert, no joke, it was an older clip but it was him, i was like i know that guy!!! tell curt that, hahah

we are teaching a family, she just went through a divorce and she has 4 children, and she was looking for a good church for her kids so we stated teaching them, the Edneys.   pretty cool family.

well everything is going good in Conroe, i really like it here and my companion, everything here is great. the ward is awsome.  have a great week.  i love you mom and dad!!!! just thought id let ya know

Storms of Weather and Testimonies....

well something different happened. Thursday there was a big storm that came through here so president called and told everyone to stay inside during the afternoon and to cancel all appointments so we did that and nothing happened… until the next day.  But our dinner appointment still brought us over a ton of food!  Haha  The next day all the schools were canceled, jobs canceled and our zone meeting was just delayed for like 3 hours but it all cleared out.

It was a slower week, but we still somehow stayed busy. hahha i got my game still mom, no doubt about that, never lost it so no worries ;)

yeah we heard about the packers winning, I saw one play of it at a members house but I’m glad Packers won.  Did you see Korey Hall at all? keep sending matts emails, i like them.

we didn’t meet with the family we have been teaching cause some things came up but they did let us know how they didn’t like "open mike" Sunday hahha they didn’t like all the crying and all that nonsense it brings but they are still excited about everything which is good :):)

oh we had stake conference yesterday and it was a broadcast from slc, it was pretty good, well have a great week mom, i love you all, oh yeah ill probly be with elder martin for anothre 2 weeks cause he has been in this area for about 6 months so he will probably be leaving this transfer, i gotta go, i love you mom and dad, and family, have a great week,

What About The Missionaries...??

The funniest thing happened in Primary Sunday.  Kenyon Gillins was in class and a little girl gave the prayer.  After it ended, Kenyon looked at her and said, “What about the missionaries?  You didn’t bless the missionaries!  You need to bless the missionaries!  Brian is a missionary and I love Brian!  We need to bless the missionaries!”  All this from a darling 4 year old….  J

Finding Families! (and other interesting stuff!)

hello :)

this week was good again. we have two families we are teaching now and one family has been coming to church.  this one is solid-their names are the Cambells, they are in their 40s. really cool family.  but we have them and another family, (the schultzs) and we met another guy last night, we actually had dinner with a part member family and the husband is the one.   this week was great, i dont know if i told you but the week of Christmas we had a fast for families to teach, i suppose its working hahaha :)

so you remember frank? the one that was going to be baptized and dumped us on the phone? comes to find out he is like one of the head people in the drug trafficking and drug cartel in Mexico!  he was trying to get out of it during the time we were teaching him but 2 of his really good friends got shot down there and thats what made him not want to be baptized, he felt it was his responsibility to pick up where his friends left off, pretty stupid i know but his ex girlfriend says he is on the run cause he is illegal and they have been looking for him for a while, when his girlfriend told us all of this i was like "holy crap, we were teaching an illegal immigrant and drug lord!!!!"" kinda cool experience i suppose lol, but he was like really really nice too, i guess thats how business ppl need to be whether they are really business ppl or drug lords haha, they need to have good "PR" but yeah haha

i bet landon and emily are relieved now that the kids are gone, best kind of birth control right there haha, have them babysit. good to hear that the farewell went well :) im glad brady and dad were able to stay sane and see a basketball game haha firth is gunna win it again 5-peat

Interviews with president went well, and everything else is going well, by next week we should have 2 baptism dates set but its all going good here, tell everyone hi for me. i love you all

So the missionaries in our mission are now asked to spend at least 1 hour on the new mormon.org website just getting to know it and learn it and we can’t do it on p-day so during the week we have to be on mormon.org learning it. Kinda weird but i guess the church is really really pushing for mormon.org. we also got new passalong cards just focusing on mormon.org.   cool cards.  How is dad working with the missionaries in the ward???

Another good week in Magnolia

well this week was pretty good. nothing too crazy weird or anything but it was all good.  we did see a big fat man getting arrested outside of his double wide and that was pretty funny. Magnolia is weird like that, we have run down trailer homes and then across the street multi million dollar homes!

We have interviews with the President tomorrow, the first one since I flew in at the end of October.  We met 2 different families this week and one couple came to church.  They’re pretty excited to meet with us and learn more J  J

We got our lunch paid for twice this week and dinner all week :):) they take care of us.  the lunches were paid for by complete strangers and just while i was typing this a college kid came up to us and gave us 20 dollars and said " i hope that helps" pretty nice people down here J

i dont know if i told you this but our ward mission leader looks like george castanza. haha its so funny, ill try to get a picture with him before i leave the area. he is cool.  Magnolia is going great, the work is going great,have a great week and tell everyone hi for me. i love you mom and dad,

Sharing the Same Houston Air As Brian!

 I talked to Anna yesterday before church!  We get a call from the elders from the Woodlands (really really really nice area) and elder Johnson is like " so elder schofield whats up?" I was like why are you calling me just to see whats up?  Then he was all like "im looking at your sister right now, she is standing in front of me” i didn’t think he was going to put her on the phone but he did so i talked with her for like 5 minutes.  They were only 30 minutes away from where we are hahah kinda weird but whatever lol.

(Anna and Curt flew in to Houston to go on their cruise that left from Galvaston.  They spent the night in Houston and went to their friend's aunts' ward.  Four missions in Houston and not only were they in a ward IN Brian's mission, they were IN his area!  Crazy!  They agreed ahead of time not to try and see each other, but was fun for them to talk on the phone for a bit!)

Everything Is Well

hi mom,

i know you know I’m doing fine, nothing really too exciting or new but things are going great and everything. The work is still progressing and still trying to find more people to teach but yes everything is well.

I’m glad to hear everything back home is going good and that dad is hanging in there haha, glad to know that people haven’t completely forgot about me haha thats good.

 Our ward loves me and Elder Martin nuff said.  The primary made us a big big banner and presented it to us lol haha it was pretty cool.   the dinner calendar is filled up for the next 4 weeks. so don’t worry about us being fed. I’ll take a picture of the banner and get one to you.

Look Not Behind Thee

New Day-New Week

Well we got transfer calls on Saturday and me and elder martin are staying together for at least another one. We are still in Magnolia so I still have the same address. I’ll probably be here for two more but who knows.  Kinda like it here. HICKville but you still have the nice areas. So yup I’m still in magnolia. (This coming from a boy from Buhl Idaho J!)

I’m glad to hear Kenadee’s present made her happy. it wasn’t much but I’m glad she likes it. (Brian sent her a personalized Book of Mormon that he had written a very special message in.  It was for Kenadee’s 7^th Birthday. )

Greg and Michelle are still doing great. They are getting a car soon and they both have callings. They are called as ward missionaries which is pretty cool. They have been bringing a couple of boys to church with them. Kathy Alvarado is an assistant ward librarian and she is going to do baptisms tomorrow with the relief society at the temple.  She was so excited about it when we went and visited with her last night. She is doing great.

so we had a mission wide fast a couple weeks ago for families to teach and for us to be truly converted. The fast went well but this past week our investigator with a baptism date dropped us and said he doesn’t want to do it then a family we met after the fast, they seemed really excited and solid then this past week they dropped us. KIIINNNNDDDAAAA sucks.  Frank, the one that had the baptism date called and i talked to him, it was like i was being dumped over the phone, no joke he said the " its not you its me" line i was like "wow, i just got dumped".

The baptism in salt lake on Christmas Day went great, he was confirmed last week in sacrament and he got a nice new suit, haha

Tell dad to be happy haha, i know he is and I’m sure he has lots of stress sometimes. oh yeah you’re in the nursery!   im sure you are good at it, great at it actually.  i would go crazy!

More From the New Year Letter

So Elder Russell M Nelson is coming there?? did i tell you that he spoke at the mtc the last night we were there. his talk was about not saying too much as missionaries and speaking with few words with power so thats what he did and we got out 30 minutes early lol. it was pretty funny.

So my cousin jed is going to Connecticut. ?? when did he get old enough???? wow, tell him hi for me,

Everything is going good here in texas :):) i really dont have much to tell the ward right now, tell them thanks for everything and all the patience they have.  they all did so much to help me, coaches, scout leaders, teachers. ill leave it for you mom, you will do a great job.

Happy New Year Y'all!

happy new years to you all!!!!!! we sure partied it up here in texas. we went downtown until midnight and just had a great time. lol JUST KIDDING!!! we all had to be in our apartments by five because people here start early,yeah. haha so we just played games in our apartment.

i have a story to tell you, happened to me like 4 weeks ago or so, okay so we have this guy named Rueban and he was baptized like 6 months ago and is totally inactive so we have been trying to teach him because apparently the missionaries just baptized for the stat and he knows nothing.  We think he was high when he got baptized but whatever, we have been teaching him and going over there and this one time we show up and sit down on the couch and elder martin needs to go to the bathroom so he leaves and its just me and Rueban sitting in the living room. he asks if i want something to drink and im like sure brotha,  ( he calls us his brothas) so he goes to the fridge and pulls a pitcher of juice or something out and pours two glasses for me and elder martin, so he brings the glasses over to me and i have elder martins in my hand cause he is still in the bathroom and i start drinking mine, about the time I’m half way done with mine and elder martin comes out, Rueban asks us " hey brothas, you can have iced tea right?" elder martin walked right in at the bad time, he asks that and my glass is half empy, i was like WOW reuban, it was pretty funny so i was like oh crap. but it was whatever, lol i broke the word of wisdom on my mission, :(   im still worthy mother. i took care of it as Lloyd off of dumb and dumber would say lol 

so thats the story of rueban haha

The Christmas Phone Call!

Well, we got to talk to Brian on Christmas Day!  He called at 3:15 pm and we visited for about 45 minutes.  It was so good to hear his voice visit with him.  Anna and Curt, Amy and Brady, Landon and Emily and all the Grandkids were here to talk to him too.  He sounds good and happy.  When he said he needed to "wrap it up" I said. "Brian, I just want you to know....." and he just cut me off before I could start boobin" and he said "Mom! don't even go there!"  He was so darn nice about it, but I was glad that we left on a good note and not all in tears!  He knows me pretty well!

That’s awesome Steve and Pam and doing those things.  The senior couples that do those things in our mission are way cool too, the sister that does the cars and things and she is the one that called you my first day i believe, thats the one.

That’s cool you had a Christmas breakfast instead of a dinner, did a lot of people show up???

i dont get to make a pre chrismas phone call but i will be calling you at around 4 or five that night okay??? Sometime around there, i will call the home phone just so you know, you better not be sleeping and miss it!  I cant wait to talk to you all!so around 4 or 5, maybe a little later or a little earlier, just be ready okay?? Hahaha

 okay so the investigator that was getting baptized Jan 1st is actually getting baptized on Christmas in

Salt Lake so we have been calling people up there and making sure it works out.   He is flying up there for the break to have his girlfriends dad baptize him, and we have another baptism planned for the 9th of Jan.  we set that last night. We had dinner with a way cool family last night and reminded me a lot of my parents, they were so cool. All their boys are flying in from college this week and they have a boy that is a senior this year. it was way fun.

well everything is going great so far, don’t forget ill be calling you around that time, just have you cell phone with you all day just to play it safe but im sure ill call on the home phone. 
well i hope you have a great week at school for two days. im looking forward to hearing from you,

A New Favorite Christmas Picture!

We found this picture this year and immediately fell in love with it!  It was done by Liz Lemon Swindle (I love her stuff!) She says "This young couple would go on to raise the most important and perfect man that has ever lived.  Because of their love as parents, our live have hope and promise."  I don't know that I have ever seen a picture like this with Joseph holding the newborn baby.   It just had such a sweet spirit about it and I wanted to share!  Hope you all have a blessed and wonderful Christmas season and seek the best Christmas Presence!

i did get a letter from keagan, i need his address so i can write him back.  

we will be going to the houston temple on the 23, Joseph smiths birthday so that will be cool. 

i have been staying in touch with dusty, i got a letter from him the other day, it was nice. well we had our wards Christmas party on saturday night and that was pretty fun,

I’m really looking forward to call home on christmas.

we have another baptisim planned for the 1st of January which is pretty cool.

im glad everything is going good back home.

how is everything going?

okay so this Saturday michille got baptized and then on sunday was confirmed, it was awesome and the her husband has been baptized for about 3 weeks now and he got ordained as a priest yesterday after church. that was awesome. things are going really good right now oh and kathy,the other lady that we baptized on the 20th had an interview yesterday to go and do baptisims at the temple, all three of them are

way solid J

so last night at dinner we went to a family that is really really cool, younger couple, they have 4 kids and the oldest is 15 and all their kids were like you missionaries are actually cool and talk to us, some just sit there all awkward. that was nice to hear. the dad is from idaho falls so we talked a lot. when they took us back we let them come in the apartment and showed the boys around the "pad" of "man cave" he they were asking so many questions about being a missionary. its a good thing the apartment was somewhat clean. yaa the new elder is from logan, he is really new too and is way cool. its permanent now that he is living with us. just cause the other 2 in the other ward are going home this transfer so he is here to learn the area before they leave. he is awesome. elder nielson. 

yes we went to the chapel and watched the Christmas devotional, that was great, it was only us five missionaries and a cool cool couple in our ward. oh we went and did service for an older lady this morning just putting up lights and things, hse reminds me so much of grandma z. her husband died this past year and whenever she talks about him she tears up, she made me tear up this morning, she is sooo soso cool. she says she is our missionary grandma. :):) they served 3 missions and both worked in the temple, she still does and she is fisty and funny just like grandma z J

im starting to love the ward even more. im enjoying it a lot more. its pretty cold here and we can where sweaters so i could really use one for like under my suit coat. can you send one of those too :):) preferbly a black or a gray one?? thanks.

yes I’ll call you. we are going over to the relief society presidents house and she is planning on us to call from there. cant wait. their family is soo soo cool too. she has a son in Argentina. they remind me a lot of you and dad.

dad must be working hard, i love him, i love his letter a couple of weeks ago. i really really did. they are right, when you leave on your mission you appreciate your parents a lot more. i love you guys. well mom and dad, tell everyone hi for me, i love you all and thanks for everything you do. cant wait to talk to you. if you could get those things for christmas or somethings haha hin hint that would me awesome :):) oh sorry about your fall :( your tough tho because your MY mom :)

Progress in Magnolia

thanks for updating me with everything about the wedding and reception. i seriously really really miss you all reading all of that and looking at the pictures. glad it was a good time. im glad caitlin and chelsey were able to come down and help, thats awesome :):)

we did have a baptisim on saturday for kathy and she was confirmed the next day. prettty cool

well you remember michille?, gregs wife?? we are still waiting on the letter from the first presidency to see if she can get baptized. she had surgerey last night for some tumors but she was feeling pretty good about it. greg was still at church which is really good, thats probably why we wanted to still have him baptized even tho michille couldn’t just because with greg being baptized it would motivat michille more and not let her get discouraged, greg is really solid. I’ll send pictures home soon but send that cd first haha.

so a couple days ago me and elder martin we biking around and it was a long bike ride and we stopped at the gas station for a drink and we came out and some kid was sitting in his car and i waved and him and he was like come over here so we went over there and we started talking and was really interested in the church. he is a senior at magnolia west and so i got his number and we will probably call him and hopefully meet up with him tomorrow or something.

i havent got a bike yet, still riding the same one.

this thursday (Thanksgiving) we have the turkey bowl in the morning at the high school staduim and its a big staduim and its the old high school field, they have an even bigger one across the street then breakfast at a family in the ward, really cool family, then we have 3 differnt dinner appointmenst that day so we will be eating good and on wedneday a family has thanksgiving dinner the night before adn we are going there also haha.
